Spicy food can aggravate ulcerative colitis and increase the intensity of flare-ups. Eat bland foods such as mashed potatoes, brown rice, gelatin, puffed rice, cream of wheat, oatmeal, canned vegetables such as asparagus, carrots, spinach, and mushrooms. These foods are easy to digest and may help in keeping your digestive system healthy while providing nourishment to your body.
Licorice has been used, in Chinese medicine, for thousands of years due to its great healing properties. It helps in reducing inflammation and pain associated with the condition. Simply consume licorice root extract in a dose of 6 grams daily for a 130-pound individual. Do not consume it for more than 4 weeks. Avoid using it during pregnancy or if you have a liver, kidney or heart condition.
Iron And Folic Acid
Iron and folic acid may help in boosting the production of red blood cells in the body to promote healing. Consume foods that are rich in iron such as beef, liver, leafy vegetables, black beans, and egg yolk. Also include foods high in folates such as broccoli, avocados, and beets to boost its level in your body and treat ulcerative colitis.
