Gastritis is basically the inflammation of the stomach linings called the gastric mucosa. Gastritis could be considered chronic or acute depending on the level of the stomach lining that is affected.

Acute gastritis often clears off after a short period of time while chronic gastritis could last for months or even years.

Symptoms of gastritis vary and some people, inflicted by gastritis, manifest no symptoms at all. Nevertheless, the most common symptoms that people have to include; loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, indigestion, and burning sensation in the stomach between meals.

The causes of gastritis include infection of the stomach lining majorly by Helicobacter pylori bacteria, consumption of acidic foods/drinks, excess consumption of alcohol, taking many pain relievers or anti-inflammatory drugs, and vitamin B12 deficiency.

Other people that are susceptible to having gastritis include; people suffering from parasitic, viral or fungal infections, people that are vulnerable to stress, and people suffering from diseases such as HIV/AIDS or Crohn’s disease.

Some cases of gastritis can be treated at home with simple remedies.

Natural home remedies for gastritis pain relief

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea has essential oils that soothe the stomach lining. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling. Add chamomile tea to hot water. Leave to steep for 5-10 minutes. Strain the water and drink the water. Do not boil the chamomile tea as this may denature its active ingredients.

Yogurt

The probiotics, in yogurt, especially yogurt with live culture, helps protect the stomach lining from Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Also, yogurt helps to bolster the immune system to fight away stomach infections. Eat probiotic yogurt intermittently until you have gastritis pain relief.

  • You could keep a journal to monitor what triggers your gastritis so that you could avoid them in the future.
  • Avoid stressful environments as stress could trigger gastritis. You could also take up relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation to help you relieve stress.
  • Avoid taking water during meals as this act could impair proper digestion.
  • You could opt for supplements such as vitamins B12 and C to help hasten the healing process. Consult your doctor before taking any supplements.
  • Strive to drink coconut water daily.
  • Drop the bad habit of drinking and smoking cigarettes as these could trigger gastritis or exacerbate its symptoms.

Home remedies can help many people manage gastritis. However, if symptoms do not go away, it is essential to speak to a doctor.
